If you plan to attend our A Simple Summer Ball, this class is for you! By the 1850s the closed position hold had become quite popular and the Waltz was no longer seen as a scandelous dance. With the influx of immigrants, the Schottische and Polka had also spread across the country and become popular dances. Because this type of dance was so popular by the 1850s we will be offering a brief introductory class to teach the basics of these dances. Several of the dances on the program for the evening do include a waltz utilizing the closed position, so it is important that you take an opportunity to learn this simple dance. We will not be teaching the more formal ballroom waltz, but a simple country waltz figure instead.
If you have teens, this is a great class for them as well! This gives them a chance to learn the closed position as well as a simple waltz that they can build on through the years. This class is open to anyone 13 and up.
If you know these dances and want to join us to lend your experience as a partner to the beginners, that would be greatly appreciated!
Where: Thornhill Learning Center
When: Saturday April 29 from 1-3
There is no charge for this class, but donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of the gym rental. We will also be accepting registration for the Simple Summer Ball that day.
